What's the Best way to train your dog?
Why Private Lessons?
  • Private lessons offer a low-distraction, personalized learning environment
which is optimal for teaching and learning.  By minimizing distractions to you
and your dog, you will experience increased retention.  Minimizing
distraction to the trainer ensures that they will be more able to use their
observation, experience and knowledge to help you improve your timing,
    body language, and consistency.
  • Private lessons allow a completely customized, flexible lesson plan.  A plan
tailored to you and your dog’s personality type, training history and specific
goals is significantly more effective than a preplanned “cookie-cutter” group
class.  The lesson plan can also be altered easily if you have specific
difficulties or have run into issues since your last lesson.   You will never
have to worry about being left behind or getting bored with repeating
something your dog mastered quickly.  If there's a particular skill or
behavior that you want extra practice in, we can change our plan on the fly.
  • Although the cost per session is higher than that of a group class, you
receive 100% of your trainer’s attention for the full session.  Group classes
may cost you $20 per session at some facilities, but you may be sharing
that time with ten or more dog-handler teams.  In effect, you’re paying $20
for 6 minutes or less of the trainer’s attention, spread over a 60-minute
    class.
Why Group Classes?
  • Group classes are an inexpensive option compared to private lessons
  • Younger, less reactive dogs typically do well in group classes.  Owners with
some previous dog training experience also tend to do well.  Success in all
training depends on practice at home between classes.  Owners must put in
the time daily or they will not get the full benefit from the classes.
  • Dogs with some grasp of “the basics” can benefit from practice in the more
distracting environment that group classes offer.

Why In-kennel training?
  • In-kennel training provides a jump-start for busy owners who cannot put the
time in to teach the basic obedience commands.
  • Dogs exhibiting certain behavior problems may benefit from a separation
from their owner and/or home environment during the re-training process.
  • Commands are learned rapidly because they are taught by an experienced
trainer with excellent timing, consistency and knowledge of what motivates a
dog.  Miscues and failures to maintain consistency (which are typical of
novice dog trainers still learning themselves) can confuse the dog and slow
    their learning.
  • Owners are given learning materials to review while the dog is being
trained.  When the dog is ready, the owners are brought in for a private
lesson to learn how to maintain and continue their dog’s training.
  • In addition to the go-home lesson, in-kennel training includes an additional
private lesson or a block of group classes.  The behaviors that the dog was
taught in the kennel must be practiced in order to retain them.  In-kennel
training provides a head-start for training, not a “trained dog.”  A behavior
must be practiced regularly for at least 4-6 months for a dog to integrate it
    into their long-term memory.
